Greenwaste Recycling Operation
In addition to the operation of the transfer station, the WMRC also operates a greenwaste recycling facility through which some 8,000 tonnes per annum of greenwaste is diverted away from landfill into reuse options. This greenwaste feedstock is subsequently ground up into mulch and sent for use in the horticultural industry.
As all good gardeners will appreciate mulch has a number of benefits, these include increased moisture retention, weed suppression and enrichment of our sandy soils.

The greenwaste feedstock from which the mulch is made is derived from various Councils’ parks and gardens operations, street tree prunings, verge collections, tree lopping contractors and resident’s garden waste.
Only “clean greenwaste” can be accepted for processing into mulch. Clean greenwaste is prunings and loppings free of any other refuse or rubbish. On presentation at the Transfer Station weighbridge loads of greenwaste are inspected for contamination and if passed they will be diverted to the greenwaste recycling operation. In addition the Council, contractor or resident will be eligible for a significantly reduced disposal charge.
